Wowwee!!

What a response to the new CD!

If you've been hiding under a rock, you might not have noticed that The Sugar Shakers released a new 4-track CD for the promotion of our new song Chin Up Pin-Up, written by request for Pixie of Boogie Bop Dames for the 2013 Miss Pin Up Australia Competition.
The key lyrics in the song are " There she goes", and are the first few words that inspired the rest of the song. When writing them, I thought about all the times a saw a beautiful, stylish and confident woman walking down the street and thought to myself: "Wow! Who is she? Where is she going?". There is mystery in seeing some one all dressed up, and wondering why? But who needs a reason to dress up? – not me!! And certainly not the contestants for Miss Pin Up Australia.

The song  also needed to allow the contestants to “strut their stuff” to a choreographed dance, as well as emulate the message of the competition which encourages women to be confident. With a special thanks to our musical genius: Rupert Jenner, the lyrics come with a vampy and swinging score!

Here is a photo of all the gorgeous winners with their copy!!

A BIG thanks to all our freinds, family and fans who have supported us this past year!

We managed to knock out quite a few gigs, release a full-length album of original works…and finally get around to playing Fujiyama Mama!!

2013 is already shaping up to be a big year too – kicking it off with our favourite grungy-pub gig, The Boundary on Jan 12th, then ROCKABILLY MADNESS at the Beetle Bar with The Ten Fours and Men Into Space (both favourites of mine), and then we head interstate to the Victorian Rockabilly/RocknRoll festival: Ballarat Beat.

The 2013 Ballarat Beat is going to be an exceptional one. Why? Because QLD is gonna show em' how its done! Joining the Sugar Shakers are: Men Into Space, West Texas Crude, and Mitchy Mayhem……and, at the very least….we're gonna have an awesome time!

Then, with no time to rest, we are back at the Southport Sharks for our regular dance night – 4hrs of Rockabilly, Swing, Country and Blues……all the good stuff.

After a short break ( during which Rupert and I will be getting hitched Viva Las Vegas-style), we have a sneaky little acoustic gig lined up at The Dowse bar, Paddington on April 21st.

We'll be sure to lock in more gigs in and around these dates – so keep checking the website, and of course our Facebook page.

Here are some shots of our recent gig at The Joynt with Mitchy Mayhem.

Happy New Year!

What a fantastic weekend!
Clear skies, the sun was shining and not a drop of rain. The 3-day festival was a celebration of all things 40-50s: hot rods, fashion, pin-ups, dancing, food and of course, music!
Here are our pics from the Sunday, feel free to upload your's to our facebook page!
